Youth Is Wasted by Fellow Youths

How great was middle school? No, seriously — that period of my life has been completely repressed, and one can only assume it was due to its awesomeness. Well, some people cope with the shame, the humiliation and the name-calling through writing, transforming their misery into art. That's what Jo Firestone and Dylan Marron did to create their new play, Ridgefield Middle School Talent Nite, a return to the terror of public performance while wearing braces. The two perform their paean to the killing fields of our youth at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, with an additional 10 p.m. performance on Friday (August 6 through 8) at the Tin Ceiling (3159 Cherokee Street). All of the agony and awkwardness is contained on one stage, safely happening to other people and not to you, who can sit in the audience and either laugh, wince or flash back. Tickets are $10; e-mail [email protected] for reservations or more information.
