  • Richmond Heights has a little something for everyone.
St. Louis County has plenty to boast about when it comes to quality of life. In a comprehensive new study of the best places to live across the U.S., three of its suburbs placed in the top ten — out of more than 15,000 that were surveyed.

The study comes from the website Niche, which works to identify good places to live and match people with info about schools and other key factors. Its editors assessed fifteen factors, from the cost of living to public safety to weather. They also factored in reviews from residents (Niche has gathered millions).

By its metrics, three St. Louis suburbs were among the nation's very best places. Richmond Heights was No. 4, with Clayton No. 7 and Brentwood No. 8. All three scored an A+ for both their public schools and their overall grade.

In its Niche report card, the only category where Richmond Heights didn't earn an A was in public safety. (See the site for much, much more detail.) And residents helped contribute to the positivity. Of Richmond Heights' fourteen user reviews, a majority ranked the city as "excellent."

As one resident wrote, "I've lived here for 10+ years and have loved every minute of it. The city is small and charming, yet has very easy access to many great amenities." Added another, "I have lived in other areas of Saint Louis and can say this is my favorite so far."

As for Clayton, it got a higher mark for safety, but lower marks for diversity and housing values. And Brentwood also scored mostly As, notching Bs in safety and diversity.

For a much longer list of the best places to live, and to see where your area ranks, check out the Niche report of Best Places to Live, which goes all the way to 2,000something. Spoiler: St. Louis City did not make the cut. However, the list of best neighborhoods within St. Louis is definitely worth perusing.
