Tasteful lighting? Check. A "sleek and upscale" look? Also check. CBD has come to the St. Louis Galleria, and it's clear the herbal product isn't just for south city hipsters anymore. Even the most pampered west county housewife could get into this shop.

The new store, which has its grand opening today, is called Leaf & Co. (1155 Galleria, Richmond Heights). It's owned by David Palatnik and his wife Dafna Revah, who also own the homegrown CBD Kratom chain. They opened the first one in Chicago in July 2016; a second followed in Tower Grove South in the spring of 2017. Since then, shops have followed in nine St. Louis-area locations, including Creve Coeur, the Central West End, Wentzville and Ellisville. (They're also in Dallas and Los Angeles.) And that footprint has led to a number of local collaborations, including CBD yogurt in partnership with Bella's and CBD cocktails at Crafted.

This shop, though, is meant to have a higher-end look, with "a curated selection of CBD products and an entirely new shopping experience," according to its press release.

So what's the craze all about? CBD is a non-intoxicating compound in the cannabis plant. Users say it's a natural pain reliever that can help with everything from inflammation to migraines. It won't get you high, but they say it will put you in a good mood. (Kratom, a similar compound sold at CBD Kratom shops, comes from a tree native to southeast Asia and promises "the killing of pain and the euphoric effects," per our 2018 cover story.)

Tonight's grand opening party is invite-only, but the shop is open for business. You can find it on the second floor opposite Victoria's Secret.
