Best Art Gallery: Philip Slein Gallery

Moving from its digs on Washington Avenue was clearly the right choice. Now ensconced in the Central West End, the Philip Slein Gallery has become a neighborhood anchor, regularly hosting lively openings and showing a heady mix of both regional and national talent. Part of the reason for its success is the gallery's 2011 partnership with esteemed art dealer Jim Schmidt, whose minimalist sensibilities complement the more eclectic tastes of co-owners Philip Slein and Tom Bussmann. Together, this unlikely trio has expanded the gallery's stable of artists and now represents painters as diverse as Chuck Webster and Jamie Adams. The changes have not gone unnoticed. Earlier this year the Huffington Post included the gallery in a list of "40 Galleries You Should Know If You Love Paint" — an inclusion that at this point seems hardly newsworthy.
