The Peacock Loop Diner (6261 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-721-5555) opened its doors recently as the latest concept in Washington University's Delmar Loop development which also includes United Provisions. The new 24-hour greasy spoon's impact on the St. Louis food map is paramount, joining the select few other perpetually open dining destinations available in the area. We can already imagine ourselves slamming a milkshake alongside a burger after catching one of the Tivoli Theatre's midnight movies across the street.

The interior takes on a theme of kitsch-inspired whimsy -- neon-lit trim accentuates classic American kitchenettes and booths with walls decked out, of course, in all manner of peacock-themed collectibles. From the menu, select from breakfast all day including the restaurant's take on the slinger, waffles, omelets and more.

Alternatively, choose from soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches and corn dogs. A single patty griddle burger starts out at $3.50, but there are plenty of options for everyone: salmon clubs, chicken salad, a monte cristo and vegan tomato soup, just to name a few. On the sweet side, opt for a pie of house-baked pie or a milkshake made with local Serendipity ice cream.

Beer, wine, cocktails and boozy shakes are also available. The Peacock Loop Diner is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For the full menu and additional information, visit the Peacock Loop Diner website and follow it on Facebook.
