In June A Pizza Story (7278 Manchester Avenue; 314-899-0011) opened in Maplewood serving Neapolitan wood-fired pizzas alongside a full bar. With each pie, former Washington University professors Muhammad Alhawagri and Sherif Nasser aim to serve up crisp, charred crust and a supple interior, topped with fresh ingredients.

Of the pizzas, Nasser recommends his two favorites: the classic margherita with tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil as well as the "Fantasy" with tomato sauce, prosciutto di Parma, fresh burrata and arugula. The menu also offers a salads, fried calamari with puttanesca dipping sauce, charcuterie and cheese boards, a couple of pasta dishes and gelato made by local chef Francesco Velocci.
