According to Sidney Street Cafe (2000 Sidney Street; 314-771-5777) owner and chef Kevin Nashan, someone tried to set fire to his restaurant last night.
Well, not the restaurant, exactly. The fire was started in the dumpsters behind Sidney Street Cafe.
Nashan tweeted about the initial blaze late yesterday evening, with several follow-up tweets over the course of five hours. In multiple tweets he describes a gasoline fire ignited in the restaurant's dumpsters and snaking up its side wall, but confirmed that no one was injured.
When Gut Check reached Nashan by phone this morning he said Sidney Street was fully operational throughout last night's incident and is open for business today. "Some jackass threw gasoline on our dumpster," he says, but thanks to the St. Louis Fire Department, the blaze was easily extinguished. So far no suspect has been named. More as we learn it.
