According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there have been twelve reported cases of salmonella in Missouri and twenty-one in Illinois. The CDC also reports two fatalities, both in Kentucky, which leads all states in reported cases with 56.

The CDC recommends throwing out any cantaloupe the source of which consumers can't determine.

Gut Check has reached out to several of the local supermarket chains to learn if any of them have had to pull cantaloupes from the shelf due to the recall. More as we learn it.

Update: (Thursday, August 23, 12:35 p.m.) Dierberg's tells us that the cantaloupes it sells are from California and thus not subject to the recall.
