Late last month, Gut Check reported on the opening of the Corner Cup (1221 Tamm Avenue), which operates as a sister business to adjoining restaurant Tamm Avenue Grille. This week we stopped in for some breakfast -- currently served until 2 p.m. -- and, of course, a cup of joe.

The small cafe has some seats at the window, a few cushier chairs and some smaller tables for two. Guests can grab drip coffee, espresso, tea and more at the counter to sip on at any of those seats or can opt to grab drinks and grub to enjoy in the next couple of rooms over. The Corner Cup and Tamm Avenue Grill share a kitchen, so guests can sit wherever they'd like throughout the connecting rooms, all filled with natural light during daytime.

The Corner Cup offers all the coffee-shop standards from macchiato and Americano to cappuccino and white mocha. Any espresso bar would be incomplete, of course, without some baked goods to nibble alongside its warm drinks. Chocolate chip cookies, gooey butter cake and power bars occupy the display case, with fresh fruit as a healthier alternative.

The hot food menu currently consists of "Paleo Breakfast Items" and "Traditional Items." The latter includes plates of steak and eggs ($8.99), build-your-own-burritos and omelets (starting at $6.49), English muffin egg sandwiches ($4.99) and "Eggs Your Way" ($7.49).

On the "Paleo" side, management suggests the "Ham and More Muffin" ($7.99) featuring two egg-filled ham muffins stuffed with sweet potato hash, and the "Portabella Benedict" ($8.99), two portabellas stuffed with sauteed spinach and topped with poached eggs.

The Corner Cup's current hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more info, follow the Corner Cup on Facebook.
