Flying Saucer Celebrates Belgian Beer Week with First-Ever Beer Dinner

Belgian beer haven Tripel closed last month, but you can get your Dutch fix this week at Flying Saucer (900 Spruce Street; 314-932-1456). The bar and restaurant is celebrating Belgian Beer Week, which culminates in its first-ever beer dinner on Thursday, July 17.

"We just wanted to get our feet wet, and Belgian beer seemed good and simple," Flying Saucer manager Colt Miller tells us. The dinner will feature five beers paired with four courses.

You'll start out with a Blanche de Bruxelles, then an endive salad with a Duvel Golden Ale. The second course is a classic Belgian dish of pan-seared mussels paired with a Noritsu Tripel. The main course is Belgian waffles and chicken with a Belgian double beer. For dessert, it's Timmermans Strawberry Belgian Lambic with Belgian dark chocolate.

If you stop by on Wednesday night, you can get a Duvel "Devil" glass for your brews; the night of the dinner, Flying Saucer will also be tapping a special keg of Chimay Premiere. Tickets are $45 per person -- stop by to purchase yours. Miller says there are only 25 seats for the dinner, but he's got a few left.

"If it goes well, most definitely we'll do more, and if it goes bad, we'll do more," Miller laughs. "It's a learning experience for everybody here. It'll probably be something with some local breweries -- maybe a St. Louis beer dinner with a couple different breweries."
