The Red Lion is now open at
7336 Manchester Road in Maplewood (the former Fu Manchu space). The Red Lion styles itself "an American gastropub." You can see
the menu and judge for yourself, but the restaurant does offer its philosophy of what an "authentic" American gastropub is:
American pub food is in a class of its own. Food critics and restaurant weeklies fail
time and again to differentiate. As
Americans we often struggle at a white clothed table with an arrogant waiter
and his his long list of specials. Told
time and again why its [sic] special, but never deciding for ourselves. Meanwhile resorting back to our local pub,
debating only what we know American cuisine.
This toasted rav is better than that, these nachos rock those. Why doesn't the house do this, if I served
these I would do that. Your paying the
