The Reuben only seems like a New York City thing — turns out there's a very good case to be made that it was invented right here in the Midwest (in Omaha, no less!). A marvelously tasty melange of sauerkraut, corned beef, Swiss cheese and Russian dressing on rye, it's salty, tangy and perfectly filling. And while it might seem like cabbage overkill to order this sandwich with coleslaw, there's something about the way a good slaw cuts through the salt that makes the combo seem just right.
