A second location of Florissant Asian buffet restaurant Hokkaido Steak & Sushi Buffet (660 North US Highway 67, Florissant; 314-921-6666) is currently under construction in Concord Plaza Shopping Center at South Lindbergh Boulevard and Baptist Church Road in south county.
Currently butcher paper covers exterior windows, with only a large, temporary sign in the center window announcing the restaurant's arrival. When Gut Check happened upon the space this past weekend, a construction crew was hard at work inside the still largely unfinished space.
Yesterday we called the Florissant flagship location to learn more.
According to an employee at the Florissant location, Hokkaido will open in south county within several months. The restaurant's menu and design will mirror the Florissant buffet. RFT restaurant critic Ian Froeb described Hokkaido thusly following its 2011 opening:
Located in the Florissant Meadows Shopping Center, Hokkaido offers an extensive selection of Chinese dishes as well as sushi dishes rolled fresh at the sushi bar. Guests can sit in the large dining room and choose from dim sum, lo mein, General Tso's chicken and soft-shell crab, among many other items. For dessert, take a plunge in the chocolate fountain, which includes plenty of dippable options.
