Back in mid-March, we reported that House of India (8501 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-567-6850) in suffered a kitchen fire that forced it to close for repairs. We are happy to inform you that it is reopening for business today!
According to KTVI (Channel 2) (via University City Patch), the fire started around 12:15 a.m. March 15. Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained in the kitchen, and it was extinguished in 45 minutes. There were no injuries.

Gut Check spoke with House of India owner Satish Kumar, who told us about the changes that were made to the restaurant after the fire.
"There was not a lot of damage," Kumar says. "There was small smoke damage, but we wanted to change the ceiling, so it took time to place the order and get it in."
The restaurant will reopen with new ceiling tiles, a new carpet and new equipment in the kitchen to replace what was damaged in the fire.
"We are excited," Kumar says. "I don't know if the reopening will be big or small, but I'm glad that we're reopening."
House of India's hours are 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch and 5 to 10 p.m. for dinner.
