Inside House of Savoy, now closed
As George Mahe of St. Louis Magazine reported last night, House of Savoy, the Italian restaurant at Lumière Place Casino & Hotel (999 North 2nd Street; 314-881-7777), closed on December 10.

Technically, House of Savoy was located at HoteLumière, which building isn't contiguous to the casino proper -- and that, Lumière Place spokesperson Candace Coleman tells Gut Check, was the root of House of Savoy's problem.

"We love Savoy," Coleman says. "The restaurant was wonderful. The food was amazing.

"The reason we closed it: Our guests want to [be] where the action is. All the restaurants inside the casino are doing great."

(One restaurant inside the casino did close at the beginning of 2011: Hubert Keller's steakhouse, Sleek. Its replacement is Stadium Sports Bar & Grill, which Coleman says is "doing well.")

Coleman says Pinnacle Entertainment, which operates both Lumière Place and River City Casino in south St. Louis County, should be able to find new positions for all of House of Savoy's employees: "We have two big properties, lots of opportunities."
