Bud Starr, owner of Starrs, has a new neighbor.
Nosh has opened its new location in the restaurant space adjacent to the wine shop
Starrs (1135 South Big Bend Boulevard; 314-781-2345). Nosh follows the bistro at Starrs, the more casual Bar Oliver and
the very short lived Las Brisas at that address.
Nosh originally opened in Maplewood in 2010 but closed in April of this year, in part due to a health scare for owner and chef
Paula Anderson. Anderson is the general manager at Nosh, version 2.0, and
Angela Komis returns as the executive chef.
"The menu is a little bit bigger," Anderson tells Gut Check. Still,
as at the original Nosh, the emphasis is on working fresh, seasonal
items into each dish.
"The kitchen is
à la minute," she adds. "Everything [is made] from scratch."
The featured dishes at the new Nosh -- dishes, Anderson notes,
that might not be available for very long, as the restaurant's reopening
coincides with the tail end of summer's peak -- include chicken dredged in
pistachio flour, stuffed with brie and Bing cherries and then finished with a
cherry-beer reduction as well as a salad featuring grilled Missouri
peaches.
Nosh has a small wine list, but as has been the custom at the restaurants adjacent to Starrs, diners can purchase wine from the shop and have it with their meal for a relatively small corkage fee -- likely either $7 or $7.50, according to Anderson.
