Olio, the new wine bar from Ben Poremba of Salume Beddu, opens this evening at 1634 Tower Grove Avenue in the city's Botanical Heights (née McRee Town) neighborhood.

Olio is one half of Poremba's two-part project, which has renovated a house and a former service station at the corner of Tower Grove and McRee Avenues. Elaia, a restaurant showcasing Poremba's Mediterranean-influenced cuisine, is slated to open on November 11.

I live nearby and drive through this intersection just about every day, and the renovation of the service station into Olio has been remarkable to behold. Even if you stop by for a single glass of wine and a look around, I think you'll be impressed.

Olio will be open this weekend from 5 p.m.-1:30 a.m., with small plates available beginning at 6 p.m. This is a soft opening, so be patient and understanding.
