Organization Sues to Get Bluefin Tuna Endangered Species Protection

The Center for Biological Diversity is suing the National Marine Fisheries Service for failing to protect Atlantic bluefin tuna after the BP oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. In a press release the agency states that the species has been threatened by overfishing, with the oil spill endangering breeding grounds. The suit requests endangered species status for the tuna.

Bluefin might get a red light at Whole Foods. According to the Associated Press the grocery chain is working with the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Blue Ocean Institute to create a simple system to inform customers about their seafood's sustainability. It's based on traffic light colors.
