Pantera's Pizza (7222 Manchester Road, Maplewood; 314-781-1424) posted on Facebook December 28 that it would soon be forced to leave Maplewood due to a landlord dispute -- specifically, Pantera's said it lost the lease because of a sharp increase in rent. It's turned into a bit of drama over at 40 South News, which first reported the story.

Pantera's is a local pizza chain that has been in Maplewood for more than 25 years, with locations in O'Fallon (which has been there since 1981), Edwardsville, Ferguson and Hazelwood. An employee told 40 South News that the rent had been essentially "quadrupled" and that the building owner, Aldan Investments, "obviously just want[s] us out." An Aldan representative then contacted 40 South News and says the rent was only doubled, not quadrupled, and that the space was way under market anyway.

Either way, it looks like Pantera's won't be staying. However, the restaurant stressed that they are definitely still open and probably will be through January.
