The cocktails at Planter's House (1000 Mississippi Avenue; 314-696-6203) are like works of art. Intellectually curious, we called them. Unfortunately, at upward of $10 apiece, we can't all afford to be curious. Starting today, you can get a selection of drinks and small plates at Planter's House for just $5.

The menu will have five rotating cocktails for $5 each, with a few beers for $3 each. There will also be five small plates for $5 each. The cocktail list has a few classics, like an Earl Grey martini, a Brown Derby (rum, lime juice, maple sugar) and a Queen's Park Swizzle (rum, simple syrup, mint, bitters). There are a few house originals on the list, too -- the Pointy End, a riff on the classic gimlet ("Because a gimlet is a sharp tool," Kilgore says) or the Golden Days, a tequila drink.
For food, munch on arancini with balsamic gastrique; french fries with housemade ketchup; popovers filled with pork, cheddar and apple butter; or flatbread topped with a spicy red sauce, mushrooms and spinach. You can also get small doughnuts with powdered sugar. Yum.
"We've been planning on doing something for a while in that time slot," Kilgore says, "but we also want to help build out afternoon business."
The happy-hour menu will be available Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m.
