Remy's Kitchen & Wine Bar (222 S. Bemiston Avenue, 314-726-5757), the Clayton mainstay known for its excellent wine list and Mediterranean small plates, won't be ringing in the new year: The restaurant will be closing for good on December 31.
Owner Tim Mallett announced the news on Remy's website yesterday, saying that he plans to focus on his other eatery, Big Sky Cafe, which "continues to thrive in Webster Groves."
We've seen growth in the last couple of years due to expanded offerings at brunch, lunch, and dinner. This downsizing move at Remy's allows me to spend more time on some great things planned for Big Sky Café in 2018, as well as spend time with my growing family.When Remy's opened in 1995, it earned a devoted following for its then-novel small plates, along with the complimentary olive tapenade that was served alongside bread and a bread pudding studded with golden raisins that quickly became famous in the region. It later pioneered the "Ecstatic Hour" — because, of course, every hour at Remy's was happy.
I’m inviting you to come visit me at Big Sky Cafe, use any remaining Remy's gift cards you may have, and maybe see some familiar faces too. Since Clayton continues to boom with new residential, shopping and foodservice, I also encourage you to please continue to visit our Clayton restaurant neighbors, especially those independents that need your support.
Mallett also previously operated Kirkwood's Blue Water Grill, which had a successful 20-year run before closing in 2008.
