R.I.P. Mike Karandzieff, Crown Candy Kitchen Co-Owner

Some sad news to end this week:

Andy Karandzieff, owner of Old North institution and St. Louis treasure Crown Candy Kitchen (1401 St. Louis Avenue; 314-621-9650), announced via Twitter this morning that his brother and co-owner Mike Karandzieff passed away Thursday.

A post on Crown Candy Kitchen's Facebook page provides more information:

Dear family and friends, it is with a heavy heart that I tell you that after a long battle with cancer, Crown Candy Kitchen lost a great man yesterday -- Mike Karandzieff. He will always be a part of this amazing establishment and while he will be sorely missed he will never be forgotten. All you have to do is walk through the doors and know he was a driving force in making Crown Candy what it is today. He touched the lives of almost everyone and everything here!

Words cannot describe what an amazing husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend he was. So here's to you Mike! Bet the malts taste even better in heaven! By the way, way what kind of nuts are on the Pecan Sundae?!?!

As more information becomes available regarding services we will share them. We will be closing the store Saturday evening at 5:00pm and will reopen next week on Tuesday. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers and make everyday count -- he did!

Our condolences to the Karandzieffs and the entire Crown Candy Kitchen family.
