In most cases, barbecues and beards don't mix, but here's an exception

If there are any tickets left (and don't be surprised if they've sold out), be sure to snag some for one of the best foodie events of the entire year, the ninth annual BBQ for Beard, to be held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, on the rolling and romantic grounds of the Mount Pleasant Winery in Augusta, Mo.

The BBQ for Beard lets you sample goodies from some 40 -- yep, 40 -- of the top chefs in the area. At 40 bucks a ticket, that's only a buck a chef. Half of the money raised locally goes to the scholarship fund for the St. Louis Friends of James Beard, and the other half goes to the James Beard Foundation in New York for support of the James Beard House and a national scholarship fund.

You must buy tickets in advance to get in; you can score them by calling Mount Pleasant at 636-482-WINE or 800-467-WINE. Mount Pleasant is located about 18 miles south of the I-70/Highway 94 exit in St. Charles.
