Another new restaurant for the heart of Maplewood: El Scorcho has opened at 7356 Machester Road. (Look carefully: It occupies a tiny space next to the Salon Lofts.) El Scorcho offers both barbecue and Tex-Mex, and -- welcome news in a city starved for late-night destinations -- it serves food as late as 1 a.m. Hours are 11 a.m.-1:30 a.m. Mon.-Sat. and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Sun. Call 314-644-5566 for more information.
Hung's Asian Bistro is now open at 3447 South Grand Boulevard (about a block north of Chippewa). Though the name suggests a pan-Asian approach, the carryout menu I snagged is straight-up Vietnamese, with over 150 selections, many of which will be familiar to fans of the cuisine. Hung's Asian Bistro is open from 9:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Sun.-Thu. and 9:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Fri.-Sat. It's closed on Tuesday. Call 314-577-6700 for more information.
Concerning yesterday's post on the grand opening of Red at 1130 Washington Avenue: I still haven't been able to get in touch with anyone regarding the opening date. I'll try again next week.
