So in case you haven't noticed, it's absolutely freezing. It's supposed to be a little more bearable this weekend, so take advantage and get out of the house. There are several events designed to warm up even the coldest of bellies. Continue on for our food-related recommendations.

Friday (Jan. 9):

Wine and Dine with Sauce Magazine @ Dierbergs Des Peres

Learn to create delicious dishes straight from this month's issue of Sauce. Editors Ligaya Figueras and Meera Nagarajan will make some recipes from the January issue. Saturday (Jan. 10):

Souper Wine Weekend @ Route du Vin Wine Trail

You've been on the Route du Vin wine trail in historic Ste. Gen. This weekend, it's more of a cold-weather version: Six participating wineries are offering a glass of wine paired with some warm, delicious soup. At Ste. Genevieve Winery, pair the semi-dry white Ste. Gemme with tortellini soup with escarole. Charleville Winery is pairing its off-dry Chardonel with cheesy cauliflower soup. Chaumette is pairing the 2013 Chardonel Reserve with potato cream soup with truffle. At Twin Oaks Winery, sip the dry Vignoles with rich red pepper Gouda soup. Cave Vineyard is serving its Cave Rock Off Dry with Roman egg drop soup. Sand Creek Winery is pairing its semi-dry Traiminette with gumbo soup over steamed rice. Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person, available here or at the wineries.

Make Your Own Cutting Board @ Perennial Community Workshop

Come on, throw out that shitty plastic thing you've been calling a cutting board and make one with the help of Perennial Community Workshop. Community artist Theresa Hitchcock will walk you through as you make your own cutting board from hardwood remains with a Japanese saw and a foodsafe finish. Keep it for yourself, or turn it into the perfect hostess gift. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration is $45; call 314-832-2288.

Sunday (Jan. 9):

Tower Grove East Neighborhood Association BBQ & Winter Blues @ Tower Grove Abbey

This meeting of the Tower Grove East Neighborhood Association will be catered by the Shaved Duck. Beer and other beverages will be provided. From 4 to 7 p.m. Admission is free with a $5 donation or renewing your membership to the neighborhood association. Bring a dessert to share. RSVP to [email protected].

The Swells of Downton Abbey @ Kitchen Conservatory

Learn to prepare a meal that even Carson would approve of, not to mention the Dowager Countess. You'll make blinis Demidoff (Russian yeasted buckwheat pancakes with crème fraîche and caviar), poached salmon à la Victoria with lobster medallions and anchovy vol-au-vent with lobster beurre blanc, cailles à la Normande (sautéed quail flamed with Calvados and apple cream sauce), plus caramelized and braised endive gratin with an Emmenthaler cheese topping and baba au rhum with glacéed fruit. From 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person; register here.
