The Cupcakery to Become the Cup

Central West End cupcake mecca the Cupcakery (28 South Maryland Plaza; 314-367-6111) will change its name to the Cup at the end of this month. Owner Ericka Robertson Frank explains, via email, "Several cupcake shops with the word 'cupcakery' in their name have popped up around the country, so as we growing and expanding, we want to set ourselves apart. Since we sell cups of coffee and cups of cake, the 'Cup' seemed like a good fit"

The new name will coincide with the opening of a new shop in Springfield, Missouri. This joins the original Central West End location as well as locations in Edwardsville, Illinois, and Knoxville, Tennessee.

I was quite fond of the Cupcakery when I reviewed it in 2007. In addition, it won Best Bakery in the RFT Best of St. Louis 2007 and Best Cupcakes in 2008. The lemon-drop cupcake -- which, sadly, is not always available -- is divine.
