Genetically-altered beets will be harvested, orders a federal court judge. In a suit filed in 2007, a collection of environmental groups and organic farmers sued to stop the use of the Monsanto-developed beet seeds in 2010. Due to the plaintiffs filing suit too late in the harvest season, the judge ordered the harvest to prevent financial disaster. Half of the U.S. sugar supply comes from the beets in question.
