The Red Lion in Maplewood Closed [Updated]

A reader reached out to us via Twitter to ask about the fate of the Red Lion (7336 Manchester Road, Maplewood; 314-645-4200). I stopped by just now, after its posted 11 a.m. opening, and found the restaurant closed and apparently empty of any employees about to open it. It looked as if some furniture had been removed from the very front of the restaurant and -- always a big tell -- most of the liquor bottles had been removed from the bar.

The phone number remains connected, but I've been unable to contact the restaurant through it. More as I learn it.

Update: (Friday, July 15, 2:25 p.m.) Several readers alerted us via Twitter that the Red Lion announced its closure on its Facebook page:

I am sad to say that The Red Lion has closed. I would like to thank everyone who helped make it such a great place for two years!! We all had a great time and hopefully you all had as much fun as we did!! Thank you for everything.
