The Tilted Kilt Closed

The Tilted Kilt (151 Arnold Crossroads Center, Arnold; 636-287-6300) has closed, the restaurant announced on its Facebook page yesterday. The first area location of the Tempe, Arizona-based chain known for scantily clad female servers -- a.k.a. a "breastaurant" -- opened at the end of March 2009.

The employee who answered the phone at the Arnold location confirmed the closure but said a new location would be opening somewhere in the area.

A representative at Tilted Kilt's corporate headquarters declined to comment on the circumstances of the closure. Also, she said she had no knowledge of a new location.

Just last month, Gut Check looked at a report on the boom in breastaurants nationwide and suggested that St. Louis was well ahead of the pack in embracing this trend. Could we now be showing signs of the breastaurant bubble's inevitable bust? Or did the Tilted Kilt succumb to its not-exactly-prime location? Or something else entirely?

More as I learn it. Hat tip to Evan Benn at the Post-Dispatch, who first tweeted the news.
