Here's an opening that slipped way under the radar:
The Wicked Lady Pub is now open -- and, in fact, has been since October 1 -- at 4534 Gravois Avenue in the Bevo Mill neighborhood.
(For those who really, really like St. Louis restaurant trivia, the address was formerly
a Bosnian café called Oaza.)
Chris Ladley returns to the restaurant world after nine years in the nightclub business. He says he and his business partners wanted to open the kind of pub where they would want to hang out, neither a "cookie-cutter Irish pub" nor a restaurant serving high-end pub fare.
Instead, explains Ladley, "If you want to treat it like a restaurant, you can. If you want to treat it like a bar, you can."
The
menu ranges from traditional pub fare like Scotch eggs, housemade
sausages and bridies (meat pies) to more conventional American grub like
burgers, steaks and pizzas.
"We like to call it a 'drinking menu," Ladley says.
The Wicked Lady opens at 11 a.m. Tuesday through Friday and at noon
Saturday and Sunday. The full menu is available until 10 p.m. A limited
menu is available until midnight, though Ladley notes this is dependent
on how busy the restaurant is on any given night.
