Tidbits from J. Gumbo's, Land of Smile, Spaghetteria Mamma Mia

- The fast-casual chain J. Gumbo's will open its first St. Louis location this Wednesday, June 27, at 3949 Lindell Boulevard.

As Gut Check reported when we first learned of J. Gumbo's arrival, the chain has locations in six other states. Its menu offers Creole and Cajun fare (gumbo, po' boys, jambalaya) with a few fast-casual concessions (wraps in addition to po' boys).

J. Gumbo's will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Its phone number is 314-456-1235.

News of two recent closures after the jump.

- George Mahe of St. Louis Magazine reports that the Thai restaurant Land of Smile (9641 Olive Street; Olivette) closed after service yesterday, June 24. Mahe reports that the restaurant's landlord opted for a longer-term lease with Subway, and that owner Joe Nanthavong has taken a position at Fin Japanese Cuisine (1682 Clarkson Road, Chesterfield; 636-536-4228).

- Mahe also passed along word, via Twitter, that Spaghetteria Mamma Mia (904 South Vandeventer Avenue; 314-531-9100) closed last week. The restaurant posted an explanation on its website:

We are sorry to announce that our last day of business will be Saturday June 16, 2012 in our existing location. As you may have heard our building got sold and all of our permits, licenses and insurance all expire in June. I have been working very hard on finding us a new location. Please stay connected and updated with us on Face Book. We want to thank our customers for all of the support in the past years. Spaghetteria Mamma Mia customers are the BEST!!!
