Tidbits from Smashburger, Max & Erma's

As Gut Check noted a few weeks ago, Smashburger will open its first St. Louis-area location tomorrow, July 20, at 1981 Zumbehl Road in St. Charles. The "better burger" joint will be open 10 a.m.-10 p.m. daily. In addition to its standard menu of burgers, this Smashburger will include a St. Louis-themed burger and hot dog, both served with Provel cheese.

Meanwhile, George Mahe of St. Louis Magazine reports that the Columbus, Ohio-based chain Max & Erma's will take over the spaces vacated by Hanley's Grille & Tap at West County Center in Des Peres and St. Clair Square in Fairview Heights, Illinois. Max & Erma's has locations in St. Peters and Lake St. Louis; a downtown location closed last year.
