Zydeco Blues Opens in Des Peres

A new Cajun and Creole restaurant has opened in west county: Zydeco Blues (1090 Old Des Peres Road, Des Peres; 314-858-1188). It's actually owner Ron Gordon's third restaurant; most recently he opened the late Wild Horse Grill in 2000 and sold it to his partner in 2005. In the same vein as Evangeline's, Dordon plans to have live music on Friday and Saturday nights as well.

"I thought there was a need out in west county [for Cajun food]," Gordon tells us. "I love to go to soulard, my friends love it, but this is a little bit closer. It's not so much the drive down there, it's the drive back sometimes!"

Zydeco's executive chef is Wade Waller, formerly of Eleven Eleven Mississipi, along with sous chef Ian Martin, who's also an Eleven Eleven alum. Gordon says he heard from a ton of talented chefs for the job, but Waller really stood out.

The menu includes fried frogs legs, crawfish pot stickers and po' boys, plus classic entrees like crawfish etouffé, jambalaya and shrimp and grits. You can check out the full menu here.

Zydeco is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. You can follow it on Facebook for updates or check out its website.

"Zydeco Blues is just a place for people to go in west county, even east of the interbelt -- come out here and experience great food and live music on the weekends," Gordon says.

An earlier version of this post misspelled Gordon's name.
