The Morning Brew: Tuesday, 9/4

Posted By on Tue, Sep 4, 2007 at 8:32 AM

After a long weekend, Gut Check returns for its fourth month of news, reviews and more. I'm not sure how much we'll fit into the short week, but I'm confident whatever we serve up will be tasty.

Now, the news:

Michael Jackson, the world's foremost authority on beer, passed away late last week. He was 65. (CNN)

A few weeks ago I linked to this editorial that challenged the conventional wisdom about eating locally. Seems researchers in New Zealand found that eating local produce might not necessarily lead to a smaller carbon footprint.

Now, one of the researchers behind that study is asking New Zealand's government for more money to confront supporters of food miles lest New Zealand's food-export industry suffer greater harm. (National Business Review)

Naked Chef Jamie Oliver's efforts to promote healthy eating in Great Britain's schools isn't going as well as hoped. (AP)

Is addiction to food comparable to addiction to drugs or alcohol? (Washington Post)
