FoodWire: Celebrate Pi Day at...Pi

Posted By on Thu, Mar 12, 2009 at 12:57 PM

Saturday, March 14, is Pi Day, when math geeks everywhere celebrate 3.14. (The holiday doesn't officially start till 1:59 p.m., I'm told.) It also happens to be the first birthday of the Delmar Loop pizzeria Pi (6144 Delmar Boulevard; Web site). Since its opening last year, Pi has gained quite the following. The RFT named it Best Pizza (Thick Crust), and I included it on my Top Ten Dishes of 2008. None other than Barack Obama is a fan.

Pi is celebrating with numerous events, beginning Saturday afternoon with "Trivial Pursuit for chEATERs" to benefit StudioSTL, which works to bring the literary arts to area students. From 1-4 p.m., you can play Trivial Pursuit and eat pizza. The cost is $10 per person.

(Full Disclosure: My wife has been heavily involved in StudioSTL, including a stint on its board.)

DJ Crucial will spin at Pi Saturday night, and from 9:30 p.m.-1 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, DJ Superconductor and DJ Nick O will spin. Finally, Sunday marks the beginning of a new weekly event at Pi: Drag Queen Bingo, featuring beer specials, bingo and a performance by Michelle McCausland. For more info on these events, call Pi at 314-727-6633.
