The $750 Cupcake, or Everything You Hated About the Aughts Is Still Available

It's a new year -- and a new decade -- at Gut Check International Headquarters, so why not kick things off with something that sounds like an Onion article circa 2005.

Via Las Vegas Weekly comes word of a $750 cupcake:

Made with special chocolate from Venezuela's Valrhona plantation, Tahitian Gold Vanilla Caviar (the Palazzo calls it the world's most labor-intensive agricultural crop) and Louis XIII de Remy Martin Cognac, the Decadence D'Or cupcake is the piece de resistance at the Palazzo's Sweet Surrender cupcake shop.
OK, if it were five years ago, I could imagine some hedge-fund hotshot waking up in his hotel room after a coke bender with a stripper next to him and the remaining crumbs of this cupcake on his lips. Today, though, I can't imagine any reason to offer this except to bait content-desperate food bloggers into giving you free publicity.

Shit.

You win this time, Sweet Surrender cupcake shop.

By the way, I have no idea what's going on in the picture here. It just made me smile.
