Everest Opens Lunch-Buffet Location Downtown Today

Posted By on Wed, Feb 17, 2010 at 2:20 PM

Word on the street was that today would be the long-awaited opening of the downtown location of the Nepalese and Korean restaurant Everest Café & Bar. I swung by 711 Olive Street this afternoon to see whether that was the case.

It might not look like it, but Everest is indeed open.

The new location isn't a second Everest so much as a satellite of the main restaurant at 4145 Manchester Road. (Read my review of Everest from April, 2008.) The downtown Everest is open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday, serving a lunch buffet.

It will be interesting to see whether Everest can break the curse that hovers over this address. Over the past few years, two restaurants have opened and closed in relatively short order here: Zaytoon and Baan Thai Express, the latter after only a few months.

One possible problem? The curb appeal. As you can see in the photo above, the façade is, to put it as nicely as possible, past its prime.
