The latest food additive China's using that we don't want: pulverized lime as a bleaching agent for flour. Not the citrus fruit; the inedible mineral that can lead to respiratory failure. Reuters said that a company was fined for selling pulverized lime to four major flour producers. Lime, of course, is cheaper than other whitening agents like corn starch.

If you're in Aachen, Germany and a man takes the steak off your plate, there's a good chance the restaurant's been delinquent in its debts. A meat vendor, fed up with a local restaurant's unpaid bills, repo'd steaks from the grill and customer's plates. According to the Associated Press, the local cops didn't take pity on the restaurant.

Oysters are vegan, right? Christopher Cox thinks so. "Biologically, oysters are not in the plant kingdom, but when it comes to ethical eating, they are almost indistinguishable from plants. Oyster farms account for 95 percent of all oyster consumption and have a minimal negative impact on their ecosystems; there are even nonprofit projects devoted to cultivating oysters as a way to improve water quality."
