Although a $1.5 billion settlement was reached months ago for discriminated African-American farmers, the plaintiffs have yet to see the money. Roland S. Martin of CNN gives his take on the situation, and how the history of American racism has affected black farmers.

The food safety bill's still working its way through Congress, and it's hit a bump with an amendment that would ban BPA. The Washington Post reports that the food industry and Department of Commerce are threatening to pull their support of the bill if the amendment remains. BPA, a chemical in plastic and the lining of metal food cans, has been linked to a myriad of health problems.

Who else isn't happy with the legislation? Organic farmers. According to the San Francisco Chronicle there's a wariness among organic farmers about wording in the bill that the Food and Drug Administration isn't knowledgeable enough on organic methods to fairly regulate them. They argue that safety measures required in industrial farming aren't feasible for small organics.
