Where to Get Free Doughnuts on National Doughnut Day

Posted By on Fri, Jun 4, 2010 at 4:30 PM

OK, so we're a little late to this party.

But if your morning's repast of four eggs, two pieces of butter-slathered toast, three cigarettes, two cups of a coffee and, just for the hell of it, a tablespoon of jelly didn't fill you up, Dunkin' Donuts has you covered.

Today the beloved doughtnut chain is giving away a free doughnut if you buy a beverage.

(Limit one per customer, you glutton.)

So here's where and when you can get doughnuts!

Dunkin Donuts (1208 South Kirkwood Road) Drive-through: Open 24 hours Inside open until 10 p.m. The free doughnut offer lasts until 11:59 p.m. tonight.

"We kind of had to extend our production hours so they could keep making donuts as we were running out," said a Dunkin employee this afternoon. But he assures us there are still doughnuts to be had.

You might think that June 4 is just some corporate-made holiday, but you'd be wrong. It was actually established by the Chicago Salvation Army in 1938 to be the first Friday of June, to honor the women (known affectionately as "Lassies") who served doughnuts to soldiers in World War I. Without those women, morale most certainly would've been lower among the ranks -- and we might be singing a different national anthem today.

According to the Dunkin' Donus website, the company boasts more than 9,000 stores in 31 countries. The St. Louis location, in Kirkwood, recently opened to great fanfare.
