The hot salami sandwich at Gioia's Deli (1934 Macklind Avenue; 314-776-9410) is one of the great sandwiches of St. Louis. In fact, this here restaurant critic included it in his list of 100 Favorite St. Louis Dishes.

(For the history of the sandwich, read former RFT writer Kristen Hinman's 2007 interview with Gioia's owner Cathy Donley.)

Always wanted to try one but never gotten around to it? Already a fan and looking for an excuse -- not that you need one -- to enjoy it again? Mark your calendars for this Friday, July 2, as Gioia's marks its 92nd anniversary. To celebrate the occasion, the deli is offering its signature sandwich for only $5 -- $2 off the regular price.

Truly devoted fans (and hoarders) should take note: There is a limit of two per customer. The deals runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., while supplies last.
