The 4th annual Mid-American Wine Competition results are in, and Missouri wines had a great showing among the 550+ entries from fifteen states. Missouri claimed thirteen Gold and 28 Silver medals -- 32.5%, and 28.5% of the totals, respectively.

Also impressive were Missouri's six nominees (35.3% of the total) and two winners for the Sweepstakes Awards, the competition's Best of Show. The 2009 Vignoles from Stone Hill won Best White Wine, while Simply Apple from Hunter Valley Winery picked up Best Fruit Wine.

Nominated for the Sweepstakes, but not making the final cut were the Seyval Blanc from Augusta Winery, the Norton and Vidal Blanc from Les Bourgeois Vineyards and the Riesling from St. James Winery.

Missouri wines also scooped up 27 Bronze medals, the wine competition equivalent of a consolation prize (a whopping 185 were awarded at this event).

Stone Hill's 2009 Vignoles then competed a great week by picking up the coveted Governor's Cup Friday night at the Missouri Wine Competition. The Cup is awarded to the Best of Show in this all-Missouri event. It's the seventh Cup win for a Stone Hill wine. Stone Hill dominated this year's Missouri Wine Competition, producing an amazing seven of the twelve Best of Class winners, and picking up thirteen golds, nineteen silvers and four bronzes.
