Double D Lounge Bartender Tanner Scott Mixes...A Creamsicle!

Welcome to Girl Walks into a Bar, a weekly Gut Check feature that spotlights local bars and bartenders. This is part one of Alissa Nelson's two-part profile of Double D Lounge bartender Tanner Scott. Part two, a Q&A with Scott, will be posted tomorrow.

It's Monday afternoon, and the bar at the Double D Lounge in Brentwood is covered with tiny plastic cups. With the weekend four days away, bartender Tanner Scott is preparing for a massive run on Jell-O shots.

"If I make a couple of batches every night," he says, "we'll have enough for Friday and Saturday."

Oh, the debauchery that's in store!

Monday's just about the only slow night at this karaoke bar, situated unobtrusively on a particularly well-traveled stretch of Brentwood Boulevard. The bar relocated just a few blocks north of its prior location last fall, and business is booming. "On Friday and Saturday nights, there's 40 or 50 people waiting to get inside," says Scott. And the rest of the week, Double D is known for its proficient karaoke participants.

But don't expect Scott to take a turn at the mic. "I don't understand the draw -- I'm not into that crap," he says, shaking his head like someone who just got a whiff of something unsavory.
