#28: Seafood at Farmhaus

If you love seafood, as I do, Farmhaus should leap to the top of you list of favorite restaurants. It isn't a seafood restaurant, per se -- there are far more non-seafood dishes on the menu -- but if there any chef in St. Louis has a better handle on seafood than Kevin Willmann, I have yet to meet him or her.

The seafood selections vary from day to day. On my visits, the clear standout was the escolar poached in butter, dill and traminette served with grilled asparagus and two blue prawns -- with the heads on, a local rarity. I loved this dish so much that I named it my #1 dish of any kind in 2010.

Another highlight is pictured above: blackened mahi mahi with spoonbread and Best Stop andouille. Here is what I wrote about this dish in my review of Farmhaus from June 10, 2010:

Mahi mahi was given a Cajun treatment, the modest-size fillet perfectly blackened, the exterior crisp with spice, the interior tender. The fillet was drizzled with an emulsion of butter and Crystal hot sauce, a lovely one-two punch of fat and bite, and served with andouille sausage from the legendary Louisiana shop Best Stop and Willmann's legendary -- in my mind, at least -- spoon bread (something like a cross between cornbread and bread pudding).
