Turmeric's fantastic stuff. It gives curry its golden hue. It's an antioxidant and a natural food preservative. Research has shown it can help people with Alzheimer's disease and cancer. It has been used for centuries as a digestive aid.

And now if you eat enough turmeric from Target's Archer Farms label, you might give yourself lead-based brain damage!

OK, so there's not that much lead in Archer Farms turmeric, but trace amounts of lead in the spice were high enough to merit a recall by B&M, Inc. of Mount Vernon, Missouri.

Turmeric is packaged in southern Missouri! Who knew?

The 2.6 ounce-glass jars of turmeric were sold in Target stores nationwide. Six lot numbers have been recalled:

1740901A, Best By 6/23/2011 2180902A, Best By 8/6/2011 2780906A, Best By 10/5/2011 2920903A, Best By 10/19/2011 3060903A, Best By 11/2/2011 0071003A, Best By 1/7/2012

Recalled products can be returned to the store where they were purchased. Assuming you can still remember how to find it.
