When Gut Check stopped into Urban Eats Cafe & Bakery (3301 Meramec Street; 314-558-7580) last week, we discovered something that's sure to delight your boozy sensibilities. You can now find a bar inside this spacious cafe. It's called Bar +, and it's nestled in between the cafe and the community meeting room. Like the rest of the cafe, the bar has vibrant colors and eclectic art scattered about; the space is on the smallish side, but there's enough room to encourage mingling. If you'd rather, they'll deliver the drinks to your table. Bar + has a limited selection of beer and wine, but it's the cocktails that are unique. According to owner Caya Aufiero, here you'll find the same philosophy behind Urban Eats' food: keep things as healthful as possible.

Aufiero told us that Bar + serves cocktails designed to provide optimal buzz and nutrients.

She calls them "Boozies," which are smoothies combined with -- you guessed it! -- booze. You can find drinks pairing all sorts of veggies, fruits and liquor. There are combinations such as Rum Bunny and Cucumber Cooler, the consistency of both reminiscent of freshly squeezed juice. Of course, there's the alcohol to give them an extra kick, with the result being both refreshing and energizing. Aufiero described their newest concoction: the banana split. It comes with fresh strawberries, bananas, chocolate syrup, nonfat yogurt and two ounces of vodka. Whatever you decide to order, you can take comfort knowing that the ingredients (including the liquor) are fresh and often organic. There's nothing stopping you from having some blueberries in your Sangria and then stepping across the room to the scientific panty workshop.

Bar + is open during regular business hours, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday; from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays.
