Try the Pumpkin Pie Milkshake at Fozzie's Sandwich Emporium

While some of us are content sitting back and waiting for the traditional Thanksgiving pie, others need a more frequent fix. Gut Check falls into the latter group.

Luckily, we struck pumpkin gold at Fozzie's (1170 South Big Bend Boulevard, Richmond Heights; 314-932-5414). Although Fozzie's is better known for its sandwiches, burgers and chips, it also offer a variety of milkshakes, including the "pumpkin pie."

The pumpkin pie milkshake pays homage to its namesake, as fresh, pureed pumpkin is blended with vanilla ice cream and crunchy, toasted pecans. The shake retains the vibrant orange color of real pumpkins, and it tastes like a slice of the actual pie.

We were initially wary of its wildcard ingredient, Heath Bar, as chocolate toffee and pumpkin pie aren't usually mixed together. However, after one sip, we couldn't imagine the shake without it. The buttery toffee complemented the cinnamon-y pumpkin taste, and the hint of chocolate added an extra sweetness that tied the whole creation together.

Perhaps we won't be sprinkling bits of Heath Bar on our Thanksgiving pumpkin pies, but Fozzie's serves up a delicious rendition of a seasonal classic. The best part? You don't even need a fork to eat it.
