Rumors started swirling online yesterday, and now Gut Check can cofirm that Chez Leon (7927 Forsyth Boulevard, Clayton; 314-361-1589) has closed.

"Times aren't the best," owner Leon Birnbaum tells Gut Check.

Birnbaum adds that "strategic decisions" the restaurant made involving Groupon and other discount services didn't work out.

"I had a run for twelve years," Birnbaum says, "but I'm sad to close it."

This was the second location for owner the old-school French restaurant, following the original Central West End spot, now the home of Brasserie by Niche (4580 Laclede Avenue; 314-454-0600).
