Last week, I stopped by the former Shula's 347 Grill (411 North Eighth Street) in the Roberts Tower downtown to see what had become of its sucessor, Vic's on the Plaza.

A brief recap, if you're late to the story: Shula's 347 Grill opened in May of last year, but then closed in December after the corporate office stripped the location of its franchise. In January, the restaurant reportedly reopened as Vic's on the Plaza.

When I visited Shula's 347 Grill-slash-Vic's on the Plaza last week, the place was empty, with dead leaves gathered in the partially open (thought nonfunctional) revolving door

As it turns out, that's not the end of the story.

St. Louis Business Journal reporter (and former RFT intern) Amir Kurtovic reports that yesterday he happened to see a sign outside Roberts Tower advertising the opening of Victor's American Cuisine.

A call to the adjoining Roberts Mayfair Hotel (806 St. Charles Street; 314-421-2500) confirms that the restaurant has in fact reopened. Attempts to score an exact phone number for the restaurant has involved a lot of time on hold.

Kurtovic reports that the restaurant is currently open for breakfast and lunch only. He also learned a few details about the menu:

The menu features appetizers such as Maryland Crab Cakes ($15), Sliders with Tobacco Onions ($8) and a selection of salads and pasta dishes. On the burger front, there is a Bison Burger ($12), a Gyro Burger ($11) and an Asian Pork Burger ($11), among others.

More as we learn it.
