Five-Alarm Apartment Fire Also Strikes Two Restaurants

The five-alarm fire that swept through the apartment building at 3949 Lindell Boulevard in the Central West End last night also struck two restaurants on the ground floor.

Desserts on the Boulevard (3949 Lindell Boulevard; 314-533-3377) opened in January of this year, serving a full savory menu as well as desserts.

The restaurant commented last night on a post on its own Facebook timeline:

We are good, business is destroyed! Keep us in prayer please as well as the tenants in the building.

J. Gumbo's (3949 Lindell Boulevard; 314-456-1235) opened only three weeks ago, the first area location of a fast-casual Creole/Cajun chain. An owner of the St. Louis location told us via Twitter last night:

@gutcheckstl We are very sad as owners of @jgumbostl. Hope tenants, firefighters are safe.

There have been no reported fatalities or serious injuries. Stay tuned to Daily RFT for more on the fire, and to Gut Check for the future of the two restaurants.
